Prosperity possible only by safeguarding achievements of change: Home Minister Lekhak
Baitadi: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has emphasized that safeguarding the current constitution is a collective responsibility and crucial for the nation's prosperity.
Speaking at a meeting and interaction organized by the Nepali Congress District Working Committee in Baitadi, Minister Lekhak noted that Nepal has undergone seven constitutional changes in the past 70 years. He stressed that there is no alternative but to move forward in alignment with the existing constitutional system.
He further stated that the alliance between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML was formed to ensure political stability. “We are two major competing parties, but we have come together solely to preserve this system and maintain political stability,” Lekhak said. “Prosperity is only possible if the recent changes in the country are protected.”
The Home Minister affirmed that the current government is functioning based on a seven-point agreement, which includes a provision for Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to lead the government. He acknowledged some minor operational issues within the government but assured that efforts are being made to address them.
During the program, Nepali Congress Baitadi President Chatur Bahadur Chand called for necessary cooperation with India for the construction of the Jhulaghat Motorable Bridge. He also highlighted budget constraints facing the Mahakali Corridor and urged the government to allocate the required funds.
President Chand also requested that the District Hospital in Baitadi be upgraded to a 50-bed facility. He pointed out that while the hospital’s physical infrastructure is ready, staffing and proper management remain lacking.
Home Minister Lekhak, who visited Baitadi for a family gathering and religious worship at the Tripura Sundari Bhagwati Temple, is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Asad 21.
