Kanchanpur: Irrigation facilities have reached 240 bighas of farmland in Shuklaphanta Municipality-12 following the installation of deep tube wells.

The Groundwater Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office installed deep tube wells at four locations—Goundi, Khalla, Basantapur, and Tilki Tole—under a contract-based process. Ward Chairman Naval Singh Rana stated, “Each deep tube well can irrigate 60 bighas of land, and with four installed, a total of 240 bighas can now be irrigated.”

Farmers in the area are now able to carry out fish farming, sugarcane cultivation, vegetable farming, spring maize, and banana farming with greater ease. The availability of reliable irrigation has also enabled timely planting of paddy, mustard, lentils, and wheat.

Banana farmer Mohan Rana shared that, in the past, farmers were dependent on rainwater due to the lack of a dependable irrigation system. “Now, with this facility, we can irrigate whenever we need to and are earning good income from banana farming,” he said.

Local teacher Genduram Rana also noted a marked increase in agricultural productivity and farmer income, adding that more than 400 farmers have benefitted from the deep tube well installations.
