Chairman Dahal reaffirms commitment to address demands of Martyrs’ and missing persons’ families

Kailali: Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that the party is seriously addressing the demands of families of martyrs and missing persons.

Speaking at a meeting and interaction program with martyr families at Phulbari Depot Bazaar in Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City-18, Chairman Dahal honored the significant contributions made by martyrs and the disappeared in the success of the armed conflict. He said that, in accordance with a central committee decision, the party is currently holding discussions across the country to better understand the problems faced by these families.

“We have not forgotten your pain and will not forget it,” said Dahal. “When I was the Prime Minister, we declared the People’s War as a national day. That was a mark of respect for the martyrs, the missing, and all those who contributed to change.”

Receiving a memorandum from the martyr families, Dahal reiterated the party’s commitment to prioritizing their demands. “Wherever there is a problem, there is a solution. We will try to address the demands made here and, if needed, escalate them to the central level,” he said.

He added that the bill related to truth and reconciliation, which seeks to uncover the incidents of the conflict era, is in its final stage. A recommendation committee has been formed for the appointment of office bearers to the commission, and the remaining process will move forward soon.

Dahal said that once the commission is formed, the state will formally recognize the names of martyrs and disappeared persons, distribute certificates, and take steps to honor them. He also mentioned that the bill includes legal provisions to provide employment to at least one member of each affected family, discounts on public transportation, and compensation.
