Four policemen honored for arresting escaped woman in India

Dhangadhi: Four police personnel have been recognized with cash awards for their role in arresting a woman who escaped from the government prosecutor's office in Kailali.

According to the District Police Office, Kailali, Deputy Inspector of Police (SI) Gajendra Bahadur Chand of the Crime Investigation Group, along with Assistant Police Constables Ravindra Shahi and Santosh Mahara, and Police Constable Mahesh Ojha, received cash prizes for their efforts. The awards were presented by Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Padam Bahadur Bista.

The woman, Mina Shahi, 50, had been arrested by the Area Police Office Tikapur in a human trafficking case. She managed to escape in handcuffs from the District Government Prosecutor’s Office in Dhangadhi on Sunday afternoon while being taken for an extension of her remand. A team led by SI Chand tracked her to Paliya, India, and successfully arrested her on Monday morning.

Following the incident, the District Police Office also suspended two police officers from the Tikapur Area Police Office who were responsible for escorting Shahi to the government attorney’s office.
