Woman who escaped in handcuffs from Kailali arrested in India

Dhangadhi: A woman who escaped from police custody in Kailali while in handcuffs has been arrested in India.

According to police, Mina Shahi Damai, 50, who had been arrested in connection with a human trafficking case, was apprehended in Paliya, India. Kailali Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Padam Bahadur Bista confirmed her arrest.

SP Bista stated that Damai was found hiding in Paliya. She had earlier escaped from the District Attorney’s Office on Saturday while being taken for an extension of her remand.

In connection with the escape, two police officers have been taken into custody. Assistant Police Constable Chakra Adhikari and Police Constable Lokraj Joshi, who were responsible for escorting Damai, have been suspended, SP Bista said.
