Durga Prasai and bodyguard Deepak Khadka arrested in Bhadrapur

Dhangadhi: Nepal Police have released details regarding the arrest of Durga Prasai and his bodyguard Deepak Khadka from Bhadrapur, Jhapa.

According to a press statement signed by police spokesperson Dinesh Kumar Acharya, Prasai and Khadka have been taken into custody for necessary investigation. Prasai, identified as the commander of the violent protest led by royalists, was absconding after allegedly inciting violence during the March 15 demonstration. He is now being brought to Kathmandu for further legal proceedings.

During the royalist protest, Prasai reportedly drove his vehicle into police personnel, while his supporters engaged in stone-pelting, vandalism, arson, and looting. A total of 40 structures, including public and private buildings, media houses, and business centers, were damaged. Additionally, 69 public and private vehicles sustained damage.

The violent incident also resulted in the deaths of journalist Suresh Rajak and protester Sabin Maharjan. A total of 129 individuals were injured, five of whom are still undergoing treatment in hospital.
