Far western provincial assembly meeting disrupted amid opposition protest
Dhangadhi: The Far Western Provincial Assembly meeting scheduled for today was adjourned without proceeding with the agenda due to disruptions from opposition party members.
As soon as the session commenced, opposition members stood in protest, preventing the meeting from moving forward. With the Speaker’s permission, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Provincial Assembly Member Khema Devi Bista addressed the assembly, demanding a government response on issues of good governance and alleged irregular political appointments.
Bista also called for the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the recently surfaced audio recording linked to the drafting of the Sustainable Forest Management Bill, alleging financial misconduct involving the Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment, Laxman Kishore Chaudhary. The minister had resigned on Saturday following the controversy.
Despite Bista’s address, opposition members from the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), RPP, and independent lawmakers continued to obstruct proceedings. In response, Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari adjourned the session until further notice, removing the agenda previously set for Sunday’s meeting.
