Doti students forced to study in open field due to lack of classrooms
Doti: Students of Navaprabhat Basic School in Kandamandau, Purbichauki Rural Municipality-5 have been compelled to study in the open field due to a severe lack of classrooms.
Despite being established in 2045 BS, the school still lacks adequate infrastructure. With only two classrooms for 92 students, many are forced to attend classes in the premises of the nearby Malika Temple, said Principal Siddharaj Joshi.
“One room is used as the school office, and the other is for classes. Since we have no proper classrooms, we are forced to conduct lessons under the open sky,” he stated.
Further exacerbating the issue, the earthquake of Kartik 23, 2079 BS severely damaged the school building. The two remaining tin-roofed rooms are also in a dilapidated condition.
The school also lacks basic sanitation facilities, with students and teachers having no proper toilets, forcing them to defecate in the open. Despite repeated requests to provincial and local governments for infrastructure development, no action has been taken so far, lamented Principal Joshi.
