Kailali district court surrounded in protest against meter interest
Dhangadhi: The Kailali District Court was surrounded on Friday by protesters from the Awareness Campaign Against Economic Exploitation, including farmers and workers demonstrating against meter interest.
The protesters declared that district courts across Nepal, including Kailali, have been encircled as part of their ongoing movement against predatory lending practices. Awadhesh Kushwa, Chairman of the Farmers and Workers Movement Against Meter Interest, stated that the demonstration is part of an awareness program against economic exploitation.
The movement, which began on Magh 14, is progressing according to a pre-planned schedule. Protesters have vowed to reclaim their seized houses and land from Magh 12 to 17, file complaints with the District Police on Magh 18, organize a demonstration in Kathmandu on Magh 20, and surround the District Administration Office on Magh 25. They have also demanded the public disclosure of the commission’s working procedures.
The campaign against meter interest has gained nationwide traction, with organizations forming across the country to resist economic exploitation. A significant number of victims from Kailali and Kanchanpur have also joined the movement.
