Election process for Far west provincial committee chairpersons resumes

Dhangadhi: The election process for selecting chairpersons of vacant thematic committees in the Far West Provincial Assembly is set to proceed from Saturday, following two prior postponements, according to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.

As per the election schedule, the process will commence with the publication of the voter list at 10 AM, followed by an objection period from 11 AM to 11:30 AM. The final voter list will be published, and candidacies can be registered between 1 PM and 4 PM.

On Sunday, objections against candidates will be accepted from 10 AM to 11 AM, after which the final candidate list will be published at 12 PM. The concerned committee will meet at 1 PM to proceed with the election of the chairpersons, followed by the announcement of results, the Secretariat stated.

The election is being held to fill vacancies in the Public Accounts Committee, Economic Development and Natural Resources Committee, and Social Development Committee, as well as the Privileges Committee.

On Poush 11, a power-sharing agreement was reached between the ruling Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Civil Liberties Party (CUP) regarding the leadership of the committees. Under this arrangement:

CUP will chair the Economic Development and Natural Resources Committee.

CPN-UML will chair the Social Development Committee.

The main opposition, CPN-Maoist Center, will chair the Public Accounts Committee.

The ruling Nepali Congress will chair the Special Committee

The Secretariat had previously scheduled elections twice, but both times they were postponed.
