Kanchanpur: A mass vaccination campaign against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) has been conducted in Shuklaphanta Municipality, Kanchanpur, immunizing 9,969 goats across various wards.

The free vaccination campaign, carried out with the support of animal technicians, was conducted in eight wards of the municipality from Magh 20 to 26, targeting areas with commercial goat farming, according to Ram Prasad Bhatta, head of the Animal Development Branch.

PPR is a highly contagious and fatal disease in goats, causing high fever, nasal discharge, excessive salivation, and oral sores. If untreated, it can lead to death. According to animal technician Laxmi Dutta Joshi, once vaccinated, goats do not require revaccination for three years.

The Government of Nepal aims to eradicate PPR by 2030, and under this initiative, 9,969 out of 10,000 vaccine doses provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development have been successfully administered.
