Bicycles distributed to Chiraki in Tikapur
Tikapur: Tikapur Municipality-7 has distributed bicycles to Chiraki to facilitate their role in disseminating information within the community.
Under the ward’s budget for the fiscal year 2081/82, 12 Chiraki received bicycles worth Rs 10,000 each. Chiraki play a crucial role in the Badghar/Bhalmansa system, responsible for informing villagers about public works, gatherings, meetings, vaccination programs, and emergency situations, such as rising floods in the Karnali River.
Ward Chairman Yagya Prasad Neupane emphasized that all societal activities should be coordinated through Badghar, who deploy Chiraki to mobilize the community. The distribution of bicycles aims to enhance their ability to reach every household efficiently. The ward has 15 Badghars and 12 Chiraki, serving approximately 1,500 families.
Savitri Chaudhary, a Chiraki from Divyapur Tole, shared that delivering information to 90 households on foot takes hours, whereas cycling reduces the time to just 25 minutes. Chiraki, who receive rice from villagers in exchange for their service, act as assistants and messengers for the Badghar/Bhalmansa system.
Tikapur Municipality Chief Ramlal Dagoura Tharu stated that the bicycles will ease the work of Chiraki, who play a vital role in gathering community participation. He also mentioned that with the passage of the Badghar Act in Tikapur, Badghar buildings will be constructed in every ward to further institutionalize the system.
