Policeman shoots himself in Kanchanpur; Condition critical
Kanchanpur: Chakra Prasad Neupane, a police constable stationed at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, shot himself on Friday evening, leaving him in critical condition.
Neupane sustained a gunshot injury to his forehead inside the District Police Office around 7 p.m., according to DSP Umesh Raj Joshi, the spokesperson for Kanchanpur Police. He was initially rushed to Mahakali Provincial Hospital in Mahendranagar but was referred to Dhangadhi due to the severity of his condition. Later, he was transferred to Kohalpur for advanced treatment.
The motive behind Neupane's actions remains unclear, and an investigation is underway. DSP Joshi confirmed that Neupane, 30, was assigned to the administration branch and was responsible for managing weapons, including storage, cleaning, and record maintenance.
"He was alone at the time of the incident," DSP Joshi stated. "We had entrusted him with this role because of his good conduct, but unfortunately, this incident occurred."
Originally from Achham, Neupane had been serving at the District Police Office in Kanchanpur for some time. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the reasons behind the incident.
