Soil testing conducted for farmers in Chowrapati, Achham
Achham: Soil testing was carried out for farmers in Chowrapati Rural Municipality Wards 1 and 2, Achham, as part of the Climate Smart Project, implemented with support from Good Neighbors International Nepal and Malika Bikas Sangha, Nepal.
The primary goal of the soil testing is to assess soil fertility and nutrient levels, enabling farmers to manage and apply appropriate fertilizers to boost agricultural productivity. The project, which promotes climate-friendly agricultural practices, aims to enhance yields and support sustainable land management in response to climate challenges.
Janak Katharia, Climate Friendly Village Project Officer from Malika Bikas Sangha, stated that farmers will receive tailored recommendations on fertilizer use based on soil nutrient levels. On Thursday and Friday, a total of 179 fields—94 from Ward No. 1 and 85 from Ward No. 2—were sampled and tested with assistance from the Kanchanpur Soil and Fertilizer Testing Laboratory in Gari Lake, Ward No. 1.
To combat the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture, the project also provides training in farming techniques and water management, aiming to support productivity and environmental sustainability. Farmers are expected to benefit from this initiative in the long term, with funding and guidance from Good Neighbors International.
