Increase in Snakebite Incidents in Terai During Summer and Monsoon
Dhangadhi: Both summer and monsoon seasons have intensified in the Terai region, resulting in an increase in snakebite incidents.
Notably, the districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur have seen the highest rise in cases. In the past three months, eight people, including four women and four men, have died due to snakebites.
From the middle of Chaitra 2080 to the last week of Ashar 2081, nine people, including six women and three men, have been injured by snakebites. Far West Province has reported a total of 18 snakebite cases during this period.
Among the incidents, 16-year-old Sunita Giri from Lekam Rural Municipality-4, OD village in Darchula, was bitten by a snake on the night of Jesth 18. Ram Pandey, 39, from Krishnapur Municipality-7, Shantipur, Kanchanpur, died after being bitten by a snake on the evening of Ashar 11 while returning home from the fields.
Additionally, 22-year-old Navin Airi from Dodhara-Chandni Municipality-1 was injured by a snakebite while working at a temporary police post in Jhulanga. Geeta Saund, 35, from Krishnapur Municipality-1, was bitten on the left hand while cooking. In Baitadi, 66-year-old Dhana Nath from Dilashaini Rural Municipality-5, Dasasi, was bitten while sleeping at night.
Doctors advise several precautionary measures to avoid snakebites, such as sleeping in a hammock, identifying potential snake hiding spots in homes, using a torch while walking at night, and promptly bringing snakebite victims to the hospital for treatment.
