Adulterated Food Items Seized at Likma Fair in Kailali
Dhangadhi- During a routine inspection at the Likma fair in Gauriganga Municipality-8, Kailali, inedible items mixed with artificial colors were discovered being sold and distributed.
This finding has raised significant health concerns among the attendees of the fair. The Market Monitoring Branch of Gauriganga Municipality conducted the inspection on Wednesday, leading to the confiscation of a large quantity of adulterated food items.
According to Laxman Raj Joshi, the Monitoring Branch Chief, the seized items included 25 kg of barfi, one sack of bhuja laddu, eight sacks of colored bhuja (large), one sack of chowmin bhuja, and one packet of chatpat. These items were destroyed in Chaumala on Thursday.
The inspection was a collaborative effort involving various officials and representatives, including Harisingh Bohra from the Food and Quality Control Office in Dhangadhi. Municipal Mayor Devidatta Kadel, deputy Mayor Bhoj Bahadur Bam, president of Gauriganga-8 Karuna Chaudhary, and president of the Gauriganga Industry and Commerce Association
Khimanand Paudel also participated, along with local police head Naresh Dhakal, vice president Rohit Bhat, and several media persons. Prior to the inspection, the Food and Quality Control Office had alerted the municipality about the potential sale and distribution of adulterated items at the fair.
In response, Gauriganga Municipality had placed notice boards around the fair area and engaged in discussions with the Fair Management Committee, Ward President, and the Gauriganga Industry and Commerce Association to address the issue.
The authorities' swift action has emphasised the importance of food safety and quality control, aiming to protect public health and ensure the fair's integrity.
