Tragic Fall Claims Life of Yarchagumba Collector in Darchula
Darchula – A young man has tragically died after falling from a cliff in Darchula while collecting Yarchagumba, a highly prized medicinal fungus.
The incident occurred on Friday in the Kantai Doanthe Patan area of Apihimal Rural Municipality-3. Gagansinh Karki, Ward Chairman of Apihimal Rural Municipality-3, identified the deceased as 24-year-old Milan Karki of Ratavita.
According to Ward Chairman Karki, Milan Karki fell from a mountain while foraging for Yarchagumba in the forest area known as Doanthe. The incident happened as Karki was returning to his temporary living quarters after searching for the valuable fungus.
Despite the efforts to save him, Milan Karki succumbed to his injuries. His body was retrieved from the location and brought back to the village by his relatives for cremation.
Yarchagumba, often referred to as Himalayan Viagra, is a significant source of income for many residents in the region, but the search for it is fraught with dangers, including treacherous terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. The local community mourns the loss of a young life and the perilous nature of Yarchagumba collection highlights the need for increased safety measures for those engaging in this hazardous but economically crucial activity.
