Division Forest Office Initiates Winter Relief Effort: Firewood Distribution in Dhangadhi Streets
Dhangadhi: In response to the chilling temperatures affecting the lives of residents, the Division Forest Office in Dhangadhi, Kailali, has undertaken a commendable initiative by distributing firewood in various streets and chowks of the city.
Ramesh Dhami, the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment for the Far West Province, confirmed that the distribution of firewood aims to alleviate the impact of the cold weather on the local population. Recognizing the challenges posed by the recent cold wave, firewood has been strategically distributed in public spaces throughout Dhangadhi.
This benevolent effort stems from a decision by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forestry, and Environment of the province, which acknowledged the need to provide firewood for heating systems during the harsh winter conditions. Last Tuesday, the Ministry issued directives to all Divisional Forest Offices in Sudurpaschim Province to ensure the proper distribution of firewood in accordance with established guidelines, particularly in public spaces.
The recent cold wave has intensified in the Terai region, disproportionately affecting vulnerable communities such as the landless and squatters. The impact is particularly severe on children and the elderly. As the winter season brings the possibility of snowfall, the cold weather has also significantly impacted life in the hilly districts.
In adherence to the ministry's directive, all 10 Divisional Forest Offices in the province have been instructed to prioritize the distribution of firewood in public places, with special attention given to the needs of the landless and slum dwellers. This timely initiative seeks to provide essential warmth and relief to those most adversely affected by the winter chill.
