Dhangadhi: Dhangadhi Airport has become the epicenter of protests and fervent slogans as airfares witness a surge during the Dashain festival season.

With Dashain festivities in full swing, demonstrators have taken to raising slogans to decry the arbitrary airfare hikes imposed by airline companies. On a Sunday, activists hailing from the Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh and Tarun Dal, affiliated with the Congress party, converged at Dhangadhi Airport to voice their concerns against the exorbitant airfare increases. Their protest underlines a growing frustration with the escalating cost of air travel.

Students participating in the demonstrations have particularly voiced their opposition to the steep price hikes. They pointed out that the usual airfare for a Kathmandu-Dhangadhi flight, which stands at 6,000 rupees during regular times, has now skyrocketed to 20,000 rupees during the Dashain festival. Prakash Bahadur Singh, a Congress party worker, emphasized that raising fares during Dashain, a period traditionally marked by discounts, suggests collusion between airline industry stakeholders and is tantamount to a black market operation.
